A SUSSEX seaside town has been named as one of the best coastal locations to move to in 2020...and it is not Brighton.

People looking to live beside the seaside could be making a beeline for Seaford after the town finished second in a list of more than 150 possible destinations.

The list, compiled by comparison site Compare My Move, took into account factors such as weather conditions, average water quality, visitors' reviews of each area's beach, house prices and median salary to calculate a score out of 100 for each site.

And Seaford finished with a very credible 81.48, losing out to first-placed Whitstable in Kent (81.91) by a minuscule margin.

The Argus:

The Sussex town recorded an impressive average score of 4.6 out of five for its beach, also picking up points for its water quality which was given top marks.

Several other Sussex sites also finished high up in the list.

Camber took ninth place with a score of 77.93, with Brighton in thirteenth with 76.84.

Dave Sayce, managing director at Compare My Move, had a theory as to why Kent and Sussex sites had scored so highly.

The Argus:

He said: "Increasing numbers of people are looking to ditch their lives in the city and relocate, especially in light of the coronavirus pandemic, with many choosing to move closer to the coast in search of a more laid-back way of life by the sea.

“It's easy to see why, with the UK being home to some stunning seaside towns and villages.

The Argus:

"But upping sticks and moving to the coast can be an expensive choice - not forgetting the hidden costs such as solicitors fees for buying a house.

"It’s interesting to see the top coastal destinations being located so close to London, with the likes of Whitstable on the Kent coast and Seaford in Sussex offering popular places for stressed Londoners to escape to, while still having transport links into the big city.”
