Saltdean Lido was full of paddling paws again this weekend in the first of two events for our four-legged friends.

The annual dog swim is being held across numerous sessions over two weekends this year to stagger the numbers due to coronavirus restrictions.

Organisers had planned to hold a full month of doggy paddle weekends but have had to restrict the sessions to two weekends due to the pandemic.

While owners need to abide by social distancing rules as much as possible and wear face coverings at the poolside, the new safety measures have not stopped frolicking pooches from having fun and making a splash.

Dog breeds great and small were able to cool off in the main pool, enjoy a slide into the paddling pool and chase water jets in the wet play area on an unusually warm autumnal weekend.

Organisers hold the event every year to help raise funds to continue to restore the Grade II listed Art Deco building.

Sessions will also be happening this weekend between 8am and 5pm, with five one and a half hour slots taking place on both days.

Owners over the age of 16 can still book a ticket to swim with their furry friend and spectator tickets are also available to watch and throw a toy from the poolside.
