Police are hunting for a man suspected of attacking a teenager in Horley on Saturday (August 22).

The incident, which police described as an "assault", took place on Labroke Road in Horley around 10pm on Saturday night.

The victim, a 17-year-old woman, was walking home along along Balcombe Road from the Kings Head junction (with Smallfield Road) towards the Shell Garage Roundabout.

At some point, police described, she became aware of a man following her before she made her way onto Ladbroke Road.

A spokesperson for Surrey Police, who are investigating, described what happened next:

"The man is believed to have followed her into Ladbroke Road, where he asked if she wanted him to accompany her home.

"When she refused he grabbed towards her, leaving her with a number of scratches."

Police also offered a description of the man they suspect carried out the assault:

"The man is described as having a tanned complexion, with short hair.

"He is around 5'10" tall, or skinny build and was wearing a leather jacket and jeans. He had a local accent."

Police said they had visited homes and businesses in the area in the wake of the incident and they are appealing for any dashcam footage recorded in the area on Saturday evening to help them build a picture of what happened.
