Police have made nineteen arrests following two days of raids at 30 residential addresses in Croydon.

17 men and two women between 16 and 45 years old have been arrested for offences including modern slavery in relation to child exploitation.

The police activity was launched in response to ongoing reports of drug dealing, drug use, violence and anti-social behaviour.

More than 200 officers took part in each of the two days of Operation Tofano, an intelligence led, phased operation established in and around Croydon.

Nine people were arrested on August 12 and they have been charged and remanded in custody to appear at court this morning.

Those arrested today on August 13 remain in custody at a south London police station pending further enquiries.

Officers have seized quantities of Class A and Class B drugs, and a quantity of cash.

Searches are ongoing.

Detective Chief Inspector Dan O’Sullivan from South Area Command, said: "Our commitment to combat criminality and anti-social behaviour has never been stronger.

"We always seek to improve and develop stronger and more effective tactics to do this but we need our community to help us.

"The support of the people we serve is essential to achieve positive change and today I would like to thank all those who have helped us.

"We will always act on the concerns of the community and work with them to tackle criminality blighting neighbourhoods."
