Two people were injured a woman trapped in her car after a crash outside Kingston Station today (August 5).

Images posted to social media around 3pm showed a heavy emergency services presence in the area of Wood Street in Kingston where the main entrance to the town's train station is located.

Details from the ambulance and fire brigade crews who attended described how two people involved in the crash had been injured and rushed to hospital.

During the crash, a woman became trapped inside a vehicle and had to be freed by a team from London Fire Brigade (LFB).

The Met Police said that she had sustained "potentially life threatening injuries" in the crash (see below).

A spokesperson for LFB meanwhile described their work in freeing the woman at the scene in response to a query from the Surrey Comet:

"Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on Wood Street in Kingston.

"A car and a van were in collision. Crews released one woman who was trapped by her injuries. She was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews. A man was also taken to hospital and another woman who was out when crews arrived was assessed on scene by London Ambulance Service crews."

In the images posted online, first responders could be seen attending the vehicle and reaching through its buckled boot section in the mid-afternoon sun.

"We were called at 1.52pm today to reports of a collision involving two vehicles near Kingston Station," a spokesperson told the Surrey Comet.

"We dispatched two ambulance crews and a medic in a fast response car, with the first of our medics arriving within six minutes.

While Wood Street was initially blocked by the incident, it is believed to have reopened as of 4pm.

Traffic update services in the area continued to report delays in the area even after the street had reopened, however.

John Azah, the CEO of Kingston Race Equalities Council (KREC) was present at the scene and praised the emergency services' response:

"The Emergency Service personnel from Kingston Police and Kingston Fire Services were very dedicated and concentrated in performing the task they had to undertake and this showed from their actions and what they were doing especially around the small car they were working around," he told the Surrey Comet.

"I just hope they were able to provide the comfort they were trying to provide to whoever was involved and ultimately successfully resolved the situation they had to work on," Azah added.

The Met Police issued a statement sent to the Surrey Comet around 5pm:

"Police were called to reports of a collision involving two cars on Wood Street in Kingston, at 13:57hrs on Wednesday, 5 August," a spokesperson said.

"Officers and London Ambulance Service attended. A woman was taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.

"Enquiries continue. No arrests have been made," they added.
