A trespasser caused havoc on the Bexleyheath train line yesterday evening after they astonishingly jumped down onto the tracks to pick up some money.

The bizarre incident saw trains halted and delayed from 6:30pm onwards, and also caused distress to the driver who thought he was going to hit the passenger.

Southeastern tweeted at around 6:40pm on Wednesday, July 15, that trains on the Bexleyheath line were being delayed, revised or cancelled.

The train operator reported a trespasser on the train line at Eltham causing the line to be shutdown whilst workers ensured it was safe.

In an update, Southeaster said: "The trespasser on the line at Eltham had apparently gone on to the tracks to retrieve some cash.

"Unfortunately, this has caused distress to our driver so we're arranging for relief for them to move the train."

Trains were unable to run on the Bexleyheath line towards Barnehurst until the matter was resolved.

Services were diverted via either Woolwich or Sidcup, and Southeastern were recommending travellers wanting to travel on the Bexleyheath line to circulate via Slade Green or Crayford.

The affected train was back on the move by around half 7, allowing normal service to resume.
