A family are appealing for help to fundraise enough money to bring their pet home after he had life-saving surgery with a deposit.

Miniature dachshund, Spencer, 5, received surgery last week after being diagnosed with Intervertebral Disc Disease.

His owner, Bucci Keverian, 23, launched a fundraiser after receiving the devastating news that Spencer would need to be put to sleep - if he didn't have the surgery.

After reaching a milestone of £1000 in his fundraiser, a veterinary nurse agreed to operate on Spencer with a deposit.

Spencer had originally fallen ill last month with pneumonia but had perked up and 'seemed to be ok'.

However, within the course of just two days, the family pet had started shaking and suddenly was unable to walk.

Spencer's condition changed drastically - which saw him crying and whimpering as he dragged himself across the floor.

Wimbledon Times:

On July 7, Spencer received his surgery which is awaiting a payment.

Speaking to Wimbledon Guardian, Bucci said: "My mother was sobbing knowing she’d have to put her puppy to sleep because she couldn’t afford the fee of £5000.

"But I wouldn’t take that for an answer!

"I have never organised a fundraiser in my life so I launched a Go Fund Me page.

"Within 24 hours, nearly £1000 was raised, but it plateaued as quickly as it escalated.

"It would mean the world to us for people to reach into the goodness and generosity of their hearts.

"Spencer has been loyal through family losses to cancer and he has been there to cuddle my mummy.

"Through hospital admissions for my own chronic and incurable health issues, Spencer has been there to comfort me.

"Through my father's progression into old age (80), he’s been his best buddy and trustworthy companion.

"Spencer is more than a dog, he is more than a family member- he is a symbol of hope for my family.

"He is our number one boy and always will be."
