A woman has been charged with a list of offences after she was caught robbing a shop in Swanley, assaulted the shop workers then spat in the faces of police officers.

Naomi Nignall, of no address, has been charged with three counts of three counts of assault on an emergency worker, three counts of assault by beating, robbery and a count of theft.

The 38-year-old is alleged to have entered the Co-op on Swanley High Strret on June 17, before stealing a number of items from the meat section.

The suspect is then reported to have returned to the store the next day, but when she tried to steal more items she was challenged by staff at the Co-op.

The woman assaulted the members of staff and a customer, police to attend the scene and arrest her.

While in custody the suspect allegedly spat in the faces of two officers and in the direction of a third, whilst also making claims she had Covid-19 symptoms.

Ms Bignall appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on 20 June, where she was remanded in custody.

Her next hearing will be at Maidstone Crown Court on 17 July.
