The search for a man missing in the River Thames near Sunbury has been called off after authorities recovered a body in the area Wednesday evening (June 17).

Rescue boat services cooperated with Surrey Police on the search after a man was reported missing having entered the water near Sunbury Locks on Tuesday night.

In an update on the search that announced its end, a spokesperson for Surrey Police asked residents to stop sharing their public appeal on the matter further and added:

"The body of a man has been recovered from the River Thames at Sunbury and while formal identification procedures have not yet been completed the family of the missing 30 year-old man has been informed.

"We are providing support to them at this time and ask that you respect their privacy

"As always thank you for sharing our appeals and getting the word out to others in the local community."
