Police are investigating the cause of a flat fire which took place at the early hours of this morning.

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to reports of a fire, on All Saints Road at around 12.21 am, on June 1.

Around 17 people managed to escape the burning building before the Brigade arrived.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a fire escape hood to rescue one man via an internal staircase.

He was treated on scene by London Ambulance Service crews and taken to hospital.

Half of a four-roomed flat on the second floor of the building was damaged by fire.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: "The fire was under control by 1.25 am.

"Fire crews from Sutton, Mitcham, Wallington and New Malden fire stations attended the scene.

"The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service."
