Following on from our exclusive interview with CJ Stores in Stokenchurch last week, this week we spoke to S.S. Food and Wine in High Wycombe.

The convenience store Micklefield Road has proved to be an essential lifeline to those nearby as they have helped the elderly and vulnerable during this health crisis.

A staff member from the shop told the Bucks Free Press: “These are difficult times at the moment and people just need to listen to the government.

“They need to social distance and be two metres at all times.

“We’re also trying our best with the stock we are getting.

“But sometimes the deliveries are getting hard in terms of stock, but I am very grateful for all the customers we get.

“We are very thankful to them because in times like these, everyone has to stick together and they have been very supportive of us with what is going on at the moment.

“They have also been very friendly to other members of staff too.”

The shop is in the heart of High Wycombe and is surrounded by hundreds of homes, illustrating how important they are to their local community.

And once the current coronavirus pandemic has passed, S.S. Food and Wine are hopeful that things could go ‘back to normal’ but they do think that it will not be the same as it was before.

So far, 385,000 people globally have died of the illness, and the shop does not want to take risks when life eventually becomes ‘normal’ again.

The staff member continued: “What can we hope for the future?

“We would love it to go back to normal, but we will have to abide by new rules as everyone needs to be safe.

“There are some people who don’t really want to leave the house and there are people who are scared about what is going on, so it has to be safe for them.”
