Lidl has announced it will be opening a new branch at the Tandem Centre next month.

The supermarket chain has confirmed it will open its doors for the first time on June 4.

Offering a fantastic range of 40 new jobs, the store will open between the hours of 8 am to 10 pm, Monday to Saturday, and 11 am to 5 pm on Sunday.

With a total sales area of 942m², the new store features facilities such as an in-store bakery and longer-style tills with dual packing.

The new store will also be providing surplus food to local charity Elevating Lives, who provide support to the homeless.

Wimbledon International Seventh Day Adventist Church will also receive monthly hot meals for seniors, through Lidl's Feed it Back Scheme.

A range of social distancing measures have been put in place such as:

Wimbledon Times:

- Positioning designated team members at store entrances to manage the volume of people entering at one time.

- Floor markings to remind customers of the importance of maintaining a two-metre distance.

- Cleaning stations at store entrances for customers, including hand sanitiser, disinfectant and wipes, for them to use on their trolleys and baskets.

- Installed protective screens at checkouts along with the introduction of protective visors and masks.
