A BURGLAR who stole tens of thousands of pounds worth of perfume from a Boots shop has been jailed.

Justin Goulding, 41, broke into the store in Bognor Regis, West Sussex, and made off with a haul of toiletries including perfume and aftershave.

Goulding was picked up by police in neighbouring Hampshire in a stolen van and was pursued by officers.

When he was stopped in Southampton, Goulding fled from the van but he was quickly caught and arrested by officers.

Police searched his van and found two large bags with nearly £40,000 worth of fragrances inside, Sussex Police said.

The Argus:

Authorities were first alerted to the burglary when the alarm was activated at the Boots store at around 10pm on September 24.

Goulding was found to have forced his way into the building through the front of the shop.

The white Ford Transit Goulding used to flee the burglary was linked to the scene and found using ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras, police said.

The Argus:

At Lewes Crown Court on May 4, Goulding was sentenced to a total of 70 months in prison and he was also disqualified from driving for 46 months.

At an earlier hearing the defendant had pleaded guilty to burglary, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance and failing to stop for police.
