SUPERMARKETS have launched a new scheme to help those in isolation have their shopping done safely by volunteers.

Asda and Marks and Spencers have introduced volunteer shopping voucher cards so that bank cards do not have to be handed over to volunteers, which reduces the risk of spreading the coronavirus as well as the potential for fraud.

The voucher cards can be brought online and topped up with credit and sent by email to the volunteer.

Roger Burnley, CEO and president of Asda, said: “We know that many people are relying on others in this time of need, and it is amazing to see how the country has come together and so many volunteers are giving their time to help others, so we wanted to help make it easier for them with this simple payment solution.”
