A pub in Sutton has raised just under £600 in donations by hosting an online quiz to raise money to go towards the NHS in light of the outbreak
The Old Bank, High Street, Sutton, has raised £584 for the NHS after coming up with the idea of hosting an online quiz to his loyal customers.
More than 100 people took part in the quiz, which took place last week Sunday, on March 29.
Deputy Manager, of The Old Bank, Nigel Wilson, aired the quiz to his customers through Facebook.
The pub encouraged participants to donate what they could via a Just Giving page and to their surprise, raised £435 before the quiz had even started.
Commenting on the community response, Nigel Wilson said: “It was all quite overwhelming.
"My sister works for the NHS and my partner is a support worker and they were both incredibly touched by the generosity of everyone who took part.
"Everything that the NHS is doing right now is so integral.
"I think something like this is as much about letting healthcare workers know how much we all appreciate them, as it is about the money we raised.
“I was pleased to see such engagement from our customers too.
"Pubs are at the centre of their communities and we must keep those relationships strong during this crisis.
"The Old Bank is closed for now, but I will continue to run a quiz each week from my Facebook account because it is something that I love to do.”
