ASDA superstores across the country have announced reduced opening hours in a bid to cope with the coronavirus.

Many 24-hour stores have temporarily changed their opening hours from their normal hours as panic buying grows.

A spokesman from ASDA said: "We have temporarily reduced our 24-hour stores from their normal opening hours to ensure we can clean and fully re-stock our shelves to be ready for our customers."

In a bid to calm customers, ASDA posted a blog on their website, which details steps they have taken and advice they are given to customers.

It says: "We are staying close to the government on the latest information and advice to ensure we are doing the right thing for both our colleagues and our customers.

"As per the NHS guidance we are recommending that our customers and colleagues continue to thoroughly wash their hands on a regular basis and to follow the advice on catch-it, bin-it, kill-it for coughs and sneezes.

"We’ve put additional cleaning materials in our stores and refocussed our cleaners who are cleaning on a more frequent schedule in the high traffic areas of our stores.

"We are also topping up the cleaning stations at the front of our stores more frequently, making it easier to sanitize trolleys and baskets before and after use.

"Whilst we are doing everything we can to maintain the availability of products for all our customers, we are asking our customers to shop responsibly in our stores and online so that everyone has access to the essentials.

"We are also grateful to our colleagues for their efforts to make sure our shelves are being refilled regularly and would ask customers to be patient with them as they try to meet this increased demand for products on the shop floor.

Regarding online shopping they have advised that people be flexible due to an increased demand for this, and should any customers be doing this while self isolating, to instruct the deliverer to leave it in a safe location outside.

"We understand some of the reports around Coronavirus are concerning and we’d like to assure our customers that we’re staying really close to the government guidance."
