Officers from the British Transport Police will be hosting a an event on February 28, in a bid to help residents secure their bicycles following an increase of bike thefts in Richmond.

A statement posted online by Richmond Police said: "Our colleagues at British Transport Police will be outside Hampton Court train station from 3pm - 7pm on Friday 28th February.

"They'll be security marking your bicycles and registering them on @bikeregister for free.

"Get the date in your diary!"

BikeRegister is the UK's national cycle database and a leading online bicycle identification and registration initiative.

It's objective is to reduce cycle theft, identify stolen bikes and assist in owner recovery.
