A Tadworth man who faked a number of bomb threats in public places across London and Surrey pleaded guilty to six counts of ‘bomb hoax’ today (February 26).
63-year-old Christopher Butterfield was arrested on Monday and remains in custody at present.
Butterfield pleaded guilty to six counts of bomb hoax at Croydon Magistrates' Court on Wednesday afternoon.
The Met Police said he was since remanded in custody to appear in court again on a date yet to be arranged.
The hoax bomb threats were spread across a seven-day period between February 16-February 22.
They erroneously called in fake bomb threats at busy public retails spaces, including supermarkets in Epsom and Banstead last Friday (February 21).
"Following the threats, the stores were evacuated, officers attended and searched as a precaution. All incidents were deemed non/suspicious – hoaxes," a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said.
London's citywide police force collaborated with Surrey Police on the threats before detained the man on Monday.
