A man was convicted of multiple thefts after repeatedly stealing from a Marks and Spencer store in Kingston.

The Grove Ward Met Police team posted footage of the moment Kingston man Jason Smith, 42, was caught on CCTV robbing the M and S store on Clarence Street in Kingston.

The footage showed Smith as he was tackled by police officers in the road several metres beyond the M and S store.

The video posted by the Met showed just one of a number of incidents where Smith targeted the popular Kingston store.

Grove Ward MPS said he had since been convicted of a "series" of thefts at at Wimbledon Magistrates Court on Saturday (February 1).

"Jason SMITH, 42, of Wilmer Close, Kingston was today at Wimbledon Magistrates Court convicted of a series of thefts from M&S, Clarence St. Grove Ward officers on proactive patrols detained him for one of these offences yesterday and recovered the stolen property," a spokesperson for the ward police team said.

The Met's South West Chief Superintendent Sally Benatar was among those praising the Kingston police team's efforts in catching Smith red handed and securing his conviction.
