A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) after an assault in Epsom that left the victim with a broken jaw.

The assault reportedly took place around 1.15am on December 21 near Epsom's town centre on Waterloo Road.

A spokesperson for Surrey Police's Epsom and Ewell Beat said that he apprehended after being recognized by officers patrolling the area.

"The man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent over the weekend after being identified and reported to officers who were on night time patrols in the town centre," the police spokesperson said.

They meanwhile revealed that the suspect was also suspected of intent to supply "a psychoactive substance" after he was found with over 100 Nitrous Oxide (NOS) cannisters in his possession.

"The same man has also been arrested on suspicion of possessing a psychoactive substance with intent to supply after being found in possession of 106 NOS canisters.

"He has been released under investigation.

"This investigation is obviously ongoing and we won’t be commenting on any other specifics.

"However our message is clear that if you are involved in violence while on a night out there is a high chance you’ll be identified because of our working relationships with business owners in town and the security systems that we work with," the spokesperson added.
