Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted and seriously injured at a bar on New Year's Day in Epsom.

Paramedics rushed the man to hospital with "serious but not life-threatening injuries" after the incident, which happened in the early hours of New Year's Day (January 1).

The scene unfolded at the Dia Y Noche bar on Oaks Square in Epsom.

Describing what happened in further detail, investigating Detective Constable Andy Robinson said that while there were potentially dozens of witnesses to the assault, no-one had yet come forward.

"This assault happened outside a busy bar where there were almost a hundred potential witnesses, but sadly no one has come forward," DC Robinson said.

"If anyone saw the movements of a man described as a white, of large build, wearing a blue short sleeved t shirt and jeans, we encourage you to come forward.

"It is believed that the assault occurred at around 1.15am and we want to speak to anyone who may have any useful information," he added.

Anyone with information about what happened is asked to call police on 101, quoting reference number PR/45200000009.
