Residents of Kingston are among the most generous in the UK according to new data released by charity ActionAid.

The research was undertaken by pollsters YouGov for ActionAid and looked at charitable donations among residents in towns across Britain.

It looked at the period January 2019 to October 2019 and excluded London.

Findings from the study showed that Kingston ranked 10th of towns in the UK regarding polled residents’ recent donations to charitable causes and groups.

The research showed Kingstonians who gave to charity this year donated £179.38 on average, with 19 per cent saying they gave more this year than last year.

The single most popular cause chosen by Kingston residents was the climate crisis.

Nine per cent of Kingstonians have donated to a group or charity’s work on the climate crisis, while 70 per cent of residents have made lifestyle changes to lessen their own impact on the environment.

The release of the study was timed in tandem with ActionAid’s Christmas Appeal.

Ed Tait, Director of Fundraising at ActionAid, thanked Kingston residents for their charitable attitude and highlighted ActionAid’s latest campaign.

“Thank you to the people of Kingston Upon Thames!”  Mr Tait said.

“It’s inspiring to see your commitment to helping women and girls in some of the poorest countries in the world.

“Right now, ActionAid’s local teams are working round the clock helping women and girls to rebuild their lives after climate-change disasters - but our supplies are running out.

“With your support this Christmas, you could help us provide more food, toilets and essentials kits to women and girls on the edge of survival.

“Essentials kits include basic but vital items including whistles and torches to help keep women and girls safe at night.

“You can help show these women and girls that the world hasn’t forgotten them - that they should still have hope,” he added.
