More than 2,000 presents have been delivered to Bexley Council's offices in a bid to save Christmas for underprivileged families.

The large donation was made last week by local police officers working with The Childhood Trust to surprise children and young people in need this Christmas.

The presents will be gifted to over 800 children and young adults across Bexley who may have otherwise gone without presents this year.

Local officers donated 200 presents as well as Trinity Church of England School in Erith and Barclays Bank, Bexleyheath, being amongst others to donate.

The local Amazon depot also donated generously, with £1,500 worth of items, and has also helped pick up and delivered the gifts to the civic offices.

The presents will be distributed by the council's children’s social care team and presents will be delivered to the children before Christmas day.

Officers from Bexleyheath Police station have encouraged members of the public and local businesses to donate as part of the Metropolitan Police Service's annual Met Christmas appeal.

Last year the appeal racked up over 19,000 presents which directly impacted children in care, residential homes, refuges, hospitals, and children from low-income families.

You can support the campaign and give a gift by collecting a tagged ribbon from the tree outside of your local police station.

Donations can also be made online by visiting ‘The Metropolitan Police Christmas Tree projects’ just giving page which has raised over £15,375 so far.

The Childhood Trust is a childhood poverty charity whose work has helped over 170,000 children and young people across London.
