An Indian restaurant in West Wickham has seen its chef crowned the king of the curries after winning top prize at the Curry Life Awards.
Maidur Ruhel Rahman of iNaga in Coney Hall, West Wickham, won the ‘best curry chef’ category at the annual industry awards held in central London’s Hilton on Park Lane.
More than 800 people attended the gala evening hosted by TV presenters Cathy Newman and Adam Shaw.
Abdul Hay, who heads the restaurants kitchen of seven, said: “Maidur, better known as Ruhel, is a pleasure to be around.
“He’s worked his way up from the bottom and has remained as humble and friendly as the day we met.
“Everyone likes him and I honestly can’t think of the last time a customer complained about their food.
“When my old chef retired, I didn’t think twice about offering Ruhel the position.
“He’s passionate about cooking, loves to experiment and his consistency is fantastic. We all know a business is only as good as its last meal and he delivers week in, week out.”
Andrew Kenny, UK managing director of Just Eat, said: “The Curry Life Awards is an incredibly important event, recognising and celebrating the hard-working restaurants all across the country dedicated to serving fantastic food to their customers each and every day.”
