A chance to become the next acting star has been announced and it's coming to New Malden.

The Des Hamilton Casting agency are launching open auditions in New Malden for a "very well paid" role in a new HBO series, the details of which are being closely guarded at the moment.

A spokesperson for the casting company said that applicants did not need any previous acting experience.

The brief however stipulated the following credentials as necessary:

  • Aged 18-30
  • Male
  • Korean Heritage (must speak fluent Korean)

New Malden is home to the UK’s largest Korean community, with over 22,000 ethnic Koreans living in or near to the town.

Des Hamilton Casting have been responsible for casting some of the most popular TV and film releases of recent years, including This Is England (2006), Four Lions (2010) and Netflix's The King (2019).

Responding to a request for comment from the Comet, a spokesperson said:

"It is rare that a role of this size in a major series is opened up to the public, and we are in the very exciting position of being able to search for new talent in New Malden and the surrounding areas.

"As the role we are focusing on is a young Korean man, it made sense that we centred the search in New Malden, due to its sizeable Korean population.

"We've had great success casting non-actors in both lead and supporting roles in the past, most notably Thomas Turgoose in This is England, who won Most Promising Newcomer at the British Independent Film Awards, and Kathleen McDermott in Morvern Callar, who went on to win Best Actress at the Scottish BAFTAs."
