Kingston council has raked in more than £2.8 million in fines at yellow box junctions since 2016.

Drivers were most likely to be fined on the A307 Clarence Street, at the junction with Wheatfield Way.

This junction alone made almost £1.15 million in the period.

However, locals have become much more wary of the junction in recent years, and just 148 penalty charge notices have been issued so far this year, compared to a peak of 10,228 in 2016.

So far this year the junction at Richmond Road with Sopwith Way has brought in the most money, totalling 2,285 penalty charge notices, amounting to almost £200,000.

Ewell Road in Surbiton is also known for its yellow box junctions, with ones on both the eastbound and westbound juncitons.

Across London, the penalty charge notice is currently £130, but this is halved  to £65 if paid within 14 days.

A Kingston Council Spokesperson said: “Yellow box junctions ensure the safety of all road users and help traffic flow freely around the borough. The charges for Penalty Charge Notices are set by London Councils’ Transport and Environment Committee and are applicable across the whole of London for those who contravene parking and moving traffic restrictions.”
