The fire at a kennels under construction in Addlestone yesterday may have been started deliberately, according to firefighters.

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service carried out an investigation following yesterday's blaze off at Sayes Court Farm Kennels, off Liberty Lane, at around 2pm on Saturday (September 28).

Residents reported hearing a "loud explosion" as fire crews from all over Surrey joined together to battle the flames.

In an update issued during the incident, residents were warned to stay clear of the incident due to the presence of asbestos and butane gas cylinders.

Another update also confirmed that no animals had been living in the kennels as the site is under construction.

The fire was brought under control by around 6.30pm.
A Surrey Police spokesman said: "We were called at 2:10pm on Saturday 28 September to Sayes Court off Templefield Close in Addlestone to assist Surrey Fire and Rescue Service.

"The cause of the fire is being treated as suspicious at the current time and is under investigation.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
