A man has been detained under the Mental Health Act after a gas pipe was reportedly cut in West Molesey.
Police were called at 3.30pm on Monday to reports of a gas leak at a home in Island Farm Road.
Nearby residents were temporarily evacuated for their own safety. The road was also cordoned off between Down Street and Approach Road, although officers have said residents are back in their homes.
Officers attended the property and arrested a man on suspicion of attempted arson with intent to endanger life.
Police increased their patrols on Tuesday as they answered questions from the public and looked to provide reassurance.
The arrested man has subsequently been detained under the Mental Health Act.
Police have said that their investigation remains ongoing.
