The beach is coming to Croydon later this month as the town centre's outdoor entertainment festival continues.

On bank holiday weekend (August 24-26) families can enjoy the seaside on their doorstep as Street Live brings 15 tonnes of sand to the high street.

The programme of performances runs throughout August, starting this weekend with two family-friendly dance events, followed by a Shakespearean performance next week.

Chief Executive Matthew Sims, Croydon BID, said: “Street Live is all about bringing energy and activity, encouraging people to enjoy the incredible variety of this summer’s event series will bring.

"So whether you’re into dance, theatre, high energy sports, or simply want to build a sandcastle, there’s something for everyone, at any age.

"Come and join us for an exciting August, right here on Croydon’s High Street.”

Led by dance company Scanners Inc, Salsa + Bachata will perform on Saturday, followed by a Hip Hop Jam on Sunday.

Shakespeare comes to the pedestrianised space on Thursday August 8, with a performance of Romeo & Juliet, at 7pm.

Saturday August 17 will see professional BMX stunt performers showcasing tricks and demonstrations between 12noon and 5.30pm.
