Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) have installed new electric vehicle charging points in Leatherhead's Swan Centre to help combat emissions in the borough.

The two new charging portals are located at the Swan Centre's carpark in Leatherhead.

Their introduction comes just one month after MVDC voted unanimously to declare a climate emergency, and set a target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.

MVDC's 'Parking Strategy' for Mole Valley also explicitly recognises the need for more charging points for hybrid and electric vehicles in the area and throughout the UK.

Councillor Claire Malcomson, Cabinet Member for the Environment, described the announcement as an "encouraging start":

"This is an encouraging start for our district.

"We aspire to having charging facilities in a number of our car parks in the future so that when these options are available, buying an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle can become more of a viable choice for residents.

"Electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles are the way forward to help protect our planet, and we are proud to encourage their use," she said.

To be able to take advantage of the charging points, users will need to subscribe to Chargemaster’s Polar Plus subscriptions service.
