Several fire crews were rushed to attend a fire at Bookham industrial estate Thursday morning (July 25) amid soaring summer temperatures.

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) crews from Epsom, Dorking and Esher all speeded to attend the blaze after receiving calls alerting them to the fire just after half past ten on Thursday morning.

At the time of publication the fire was reported to be ongoing.

A statement posted to the SFRS Twitter account announced the emergency responders attendance at the scene.

"Crews from Epsom, Dorking and Esher attending an industrial building fire in Bookham," the SFRS Twitter account said.

Their presence was confirmed by an SFRS spokesperson in a statement responding to a request from the Comet.

"We received a call this morning around 10.35am to a report of a fire on Bookham Industrial Estate, Bookham.

"Three fire engines were sent, which arrived at the scene around 10.45am.

"The units are currently still at the scene dealing with the fire," the spokesperson said.

The blaze ignited on what is widely expected to be the hottest day of the year in the UK.

Earlier in the week, the Met Office forecast that Thursday temperatures in the South-East could break all existing heat records in Britain, possibly reaching 39 Degrees Celsius in some places.
