Over 700 welcomed to careers event at Shepperton Studios

The event took place on Friday (July 12) and features representatives from 22 influential companies in the film and TV industry to discuss the plethora of roles and opportunities out there, plus current vacancies, for those interested in pursuing these lines of work.

The careers evening came just days after managing company Pinewood Group announced Shepperton Studios as the new home for Netflix UK, who revealed they would be creating their very own base of operations in the UK at the renowned studios on July 3.

Some of the companies present at the evening included ScreenSkills, Netflix, Film Design International, Creative Media Skills, The Iver Make-up Academy, The Film and Television Charity and The British Stunt Register.

Meanwhile, a range of guests including students from Thamesmead secondary school turned out to learn more about working in the UK's world-famous creative industries.

Andrew M. Smith, Corporate Affairs Director, Pinewood Group Limited, said that the event was just the latest in a decades-long history of the studio embracing the community which surrounds it.

"Shepperton Studios has been an integral part of the local community for over 80 years," Mr Smith said.

"Events like this are great opportunity for residents in the area to learn about how they can be part of the growing creative sector," he added.

The Mayor of Spelthorne Mary Madams, described the event as "fantastic":

"It was most encouraging to see the large number of young people in attendance, being able to meet and talk with a large number of fascinating companies that provide a really wide range of services to the film industry.

"Like me, I am sure many of those attending had no idea of the myriad of opportunities available.

"This really was a fantastic event, which I was delighted to see, was enjoyed by so many: great for the young aspiring workers of tomorrow, great for our film industry and great for the residents of Spelthorne."
