A student has died following an incident at Chertsey Railway station on Monday afternoon (July 15).

British Transport Police (BTP) attended the station at around 4pm, and said that the person was pronounced dead soon after.

Responding to a request from the Comet, a spokesperson for BTP confirmed that a person had died at the station on Monday.

"Officers were called to Chertsey station at 4pm yesterday (15/07) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner," the spokesperson said.

A spokesperson for South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECamb) confirmed that they had attended the scene on Monday "following reports that a person had been struck by a train" and acknowledged they had sadly died at the station.

The deceased is believed to have been a student at the Salesian School in Chertsey.

On the school's, website, a notice for parents and teachers said that the school's Sports Day that had been scheduled for Tuesday (July 16) had been cancelled.

"All students should attend school as normal," the statement said.

The Salesian School were contacted for comment.
