A West Molesey teenager has been charged with attempted murder following an attack outside a Nando's.

A teenage girl was standing outside the restaurant in Friary Street, Guildford at about 6.15pm on July 4 when she was attacked.

The suspect was detained shortly afterwards in Molesham Way and has now been charged.

"A 17-year-old boy from West Molesey has been charged with attempted murder and two counts of possession of an offensive weapon," a Surrey Police spokesman said.

"He appeared at magistrates court on Saturday and has been remanded in custody."

Following the attack Inspector Andy Skoglund, who is overseeing the initial investigation, said that a full investigation had been launched.

"The attack took place in a busy area and a lot of people would have seen what happened," he added.

"We would like to reassure people that this was not a random attack and that we believe the suspect and the victim are known to each other.

“We are also asking anyone who has not already provided a statement to come forward as soon as possible.”
