Residents are being invited to join a south-west London based charity at its open day to celebrate the borough’s local wildlife.

Environment Trust will host a day of fun at the Grade II listed Kilmorey Mausoleum Wildlife Garden in St Margarets, Twickenham, on July 21 between 10am to 3pm.

Nature experts will be at the event to provide information about the borough’s wildlife and visitors will be able to go inside the mausoleum where they will learn about the secret tunnel that has been the subject of much mystery and rumour for many years.

Berny Simcox, CEO of Environment Trust, said: “This is one of a series of events that we run throughout the year that raises money for the important nature and heritage conservation work we do. It’s also a great opportunity for us to engage with local people and awaken their curiosity in their neighbourhood.”

The mausoleum was built by the second Earl of Kilmorey in 1854 in memory of his mistress and life partner, Priscilla.

The Earl eventually moved it with his household several times before landing at Gordon House in Twickenham.

There will be an adventurous nature trail through the wildlife garden so people can learn about the vital work bees and hedgehogs do from the nature experts, as well as make a mini-bee-nursery for their garden to expand their habitat.

The entrance fee for family day out start at £3 per person and there is a small additional charge for materials should you choose to make a bee nursery.

Coffee, tea and delicious homemade cakes will be available, as well as lots of raffle prizes.

There is also unrestricted parking in the area all day and all proceeds will support Environment Trust's nature and heritage conservation work.
