Surrey Road Police Unit (RPU) intervened to save a young family of ducks from a roadside near Esher yesterday (June 27).

In a post to micro-blogging site Twitter that attracted hundreds of likes from users, Surrey RPU revealed that they had acted after spotting a mother duck attempt to lead her ducklings across a busy section of the A3 near Esher.

An officer from Surrey RPU is seen cradling a tiny duckling in his arms in the image — one of five that the road police team say they managed to protect from the dangers of the road.

In the Tweet, posted Thursday, a spokesperson for Surrey RPU said: "This little duckling, along with 5 of its siblings (and its very worried mum) were spotted waddling along the A3 near Esher earlier today!

"We were soon on hand to move them along, and they all made it into a field and away from the road."
