A Ewell hair and beauty salon raised nearly £2,000 for a defibrillator, following the tragic death of a man outside the shop.

Heaven Scent Hair and Beauty, in Chessington Road, held the raffle with an aim to raise £1,500 to cover the cost of the device and its installation.

Louise Hollick, the salon owner, organised the fundraiser after a man had a heart attack outside the shop.

“The gentleman was walking past my shop with his wife when he suffered a cardiac arrest", she said.

"I rushed out and watched as two women that were walking past stopped to do CPR. But it was too late.

“The emergency services were there within 6-8 minutes but it was just too long, and he needed something instantaneously.

"As I sat and watched his poor wife, I felt like something had to be done within the community.”

It was Louise’s aim to raise £1,500 to pay for the defibrillator, case and the implementation, but she managed to raise £1,873.

It’s estimated that 97 per cent of people who have a cardiac arrest out of a medical environment are too far away from a defibrillator.

Heaven and Scent sold raffle tickets for a month and over thirty people turned up to support the event where there were tea and cakes, prosecco and games including hook a duck.

Louise is now in the process of ordering the defibrillator and getting it installed within weeks.

She added: “ It’s still so raw, seeing that elderly man pass away - I just hope that this piece of equipment will help save lives in the future.”
