The company managing Epsom's Rainbow Leisure Centre are assisting police after an investigation into reported sexual offences at the centre was announced Friday (June 24).

As the Comet reported last week, Surrey Police said Friday afternoon they were investigating after receiving reports of multiple incidents of a sexual offence occurring at the Rainbow Leisure Centre in Epsom earlier this month.

The company that manages the Rainbow Centre — GLL — responded to a request for comment from the Comet Monday afternoon, issuing a statement that confirmed their cooperation with police in the investigation.

"Centre Management are assisting the Police and the Epsom and District Swimming Club’s welfare officer regarding two incidents when a photograph was reportedly taken on a mobile phone on 3 and 17 June," a spokesperson for GLL said.

Police launched the investigation after they received reports of two incidents that involved "a mobile phone being held under her cubicle door in the mixed changing rooms," as a spokesperson for Surrey Police described.

Police also provided descriptions of the suspects.

In the first incident (June 3): "The suspect was a white male with a blue and black tattoo on his right hand wearing black jeans."

In the second incident (June 17): "The informant saw a white male with ginger hair, wearing a grey back pack with a white short sleeved t shirt and black jeans," police said.

GLL told the Comet that they provide specialised training to minimise instances of this nature in locations they manage.

"GLL takes the safety and security of its customers extremely seriously and has safeguarding procedures in place to make incidents of this nature less likely.

"These include training staff to challenge the use of mobile phones in changing areas," a spokesperson for the company said.

The investigation remains ongoing.

One of the people leading it, Sergeant Will Cottee, urged members of the public to contact police if they had any information that might help police in their inquiries:

"It is unknown as to whether it was the same suspect in all cases but we would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed something at the leisure centre around these times," Sgt Cottee said.
