A Walton man was mugged in a drive-by robbery on Saturday (June 1).

Surrey Police have renewed their appeals for information following the incident, which occurred on a heavily-wooded stretch of Ryden's Road, near Walton Park, Walton on June 1.

Describing the event, a spokesperson recounted how the robber gained the target's attention by asking for help before striking.

"The victim was walking along Rydens Road opposite Walton Park around 7pm when a black BMW pulled up alongside him.

"The passenger, who was described as a black man of slim build, asked to borrow a lighter. When the victim went to hand it over, the suspect grabbed his arm and demanded his wallet.

"The suspect took the cash out of the wallet, which he then discarded on the street," the spokesperson said.

Surrey Police said that the black BMW carrying the suspect in question then drove off towards Hersham rail station.

Said Detective Constable Rhian Roberts, who is investigating the case: "I am hoping that people in the vicinity may remember the car and, if they have any information or dashcam footage, to come forward and assist with our enquiries."
