Going to Wembley would be a proud day for the whole Club and not just the manager says Charlton’s Lee Bowyer.

His side are 90 minutes and a second-leg away from a first trip to the new Wembley with Doncaster looking to play the villains and overturn a 2-1 deficit at The Valley on Friday.

The club who have had their fair share of off-field dramas since being relegated from the Premier League in 2007, deserve their day in the Wembley sun according to the manager who started his playing career with The Addicks before moving to Leeds in 1996.

“It’ll be a proud day for a lot of people who have worked at this club for a lot for years,” he said.

“The highs and lows they’ve witnessed.

“There’s still people who work here that were here when I was a kid.

“To take them to Wembley would be great for everyone at this club, not just me and the players, the people behind the scenes.

“Everybody loves the club.

“It’s always been special here, that’s why I was disappointed with the way things were when I came back, but that’s done and we look forward now.”

The final takes place on May 26, and despite admitting how he’d feel to lead the side out that day, the manager remained aware that they weren’t there yet with Doncaster offering a huge hurdle on their road to Wembley.

“It’s (the tie) nowhere near done yet, I’ve been in the game long enough to know how many twists and turns there are, just look at last week with Liverpool and Tottenham.

“But if we were to get there it would be a massive achievement, up there with the best of my achievements in the game because nobody tipped us to be in the top six, so to get to Wembley, going on the run we’ve been on, to walk out this group of players we put together, for a club I started playing as a kid, it’s going to be a really proud moment.

“But we just focus on this one, you can only cross the hurdle that’s

infront of you and that’s what we’ll do.

“Let’s concentrate and be professional.”
