The death of a woman who died shortly after a fire started in her Mitcham home is not being treated as suspicious.

Police and the London Fire Brigade were called shortly after midnight on April 10 to concerns for the safety of residents at a home in Ravensbury Court.

Following the discovery of a small fire, numerous properties were evacuated as a precaution for a short period.

Part of the ground floor and the staircase in a split level maisonette were damaged by the fire.

A woman in her 40s was rescued from the first floor by crews wearing breathing apparatus and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews. Sadly she later died in hospital.

One further woman left the property before emergency services arrived.

The cause of the fire was initially under investigation by both the LFB and Met, but police have now said that the death is not being treated as suspicious.
