Campaigning for the Epsom and Ewell Borough Elections is underway and the candidates have been announced.
Ahead of the local elections on May 2, Epsom and Ewell Borough Council (EEBC) posted a list of all the prospective candidates online, while several candidates released their own profile shots.
The full list featured a plethora of candidates from different parties for wards throughout the borough.
All 38 seats on the borough council will be contested at the elections, EEBC confirmed.
The current composition of the seats to be contested on May 2 is as follows:
• 31 seats held by Residents Associations
• 4 seats held by Conservative Party
• 3 seats held by Labour Party
All three main political parties — Labour, Conservatives and Liberal Democrats — plus the influential Residents Associations of Epsom and Ewell will put forward candidates for each ward in the borough according to the lists published by EEBC.
Ahead of the elections, EEBC also published a breakdown of its own duties and responsibilities versus those of other governing bodies, such as Surrey County Council (SCC) to help voters in the borough avoid confusion over regional authorities and what they administer.
In a statement published with the list, EEBC said: "Residents are often puzzled on the two tier local government structure in the area and specifically which body is responsible for which service. Here’s a guide to the services provided by the Borough Council and a separate list of the County Council responsibilities..."
Voting for the EEBC local elections takes place on May 2.
