A care home in Kingston Vale has been nominated for a national care award.

Care UK's Sherwood Grange care home, on Robin Hood Lane, was nominated as a finalist in the Best for Sporting, Social or Leisure Activities category at the Care Home Awards.

The care home secured the nomination thanks to the impressive range of activities on offer to residents, which incorporate trips that utilise both local places of interest, the museums (that) Central London has to offer and trips to the surrounding area including Portsmouth, Poole and the coast, a spokesperson said.

Rick Mayne, home manager at Sherwood Grange, said that the team at Sherwood Grange were excited to be nominated for a national award and highlighted the efforts made by staff at Sherwood Grange ahead of the home receiving the nomination.

Mr Mayne said: "We are thrilled to have been nominated in the Best for Sporting, Social or Leisure Activities category at this year’s Care Home Awards.

"At Sherwood Grange, we place great emphasis on individuals to ensure that everything they do or experience is meaningful and life-enhancing for them.

"Our activity-based approach to care means that residents are welcome to help around the home, and our extensive range of activities and regular outings aim to offer something for everyone."

The work of Lifestyle Team at Sherwood Grange, who help organize many of the activities for residents, were especially thrilled with the nomination.

The team previously won a Care UK RCS Meaningful Lifestyles Award in 2018 for their work.

Mr Mayne said: "Our mission is that any visitor should come in and feel that they themselves could live in Sherwood Grange. The team fully embrace this belief. As I always say ‘happy team, happy home!"

The Care Home Awards in association with Care Home Management are a celebration of excellence and innovation across care homes in the UK.

The Care Home Awards lunch and ceremony will take place on Thursday June 27, 2019, in the Platinum Suite at ExCel London, during the Health + Care Show.
