Kingston Specsavers are offering free eye tests in collaboration with a charity based in town.

The scheme sees Specsavers staff at the Clarence Street store in Kingston partner with Kingston Churches Action on Homelessness (KCAH).

The company said they are hoping to support KCAH's work and offer support to people experiencing homelessness in the area.

Alongside free eye tests, complimentary pairs of glasses are also available at special drop-in sessions set up with KCAH.

Following the first session, which took place at Pathway at Piper Hall on Cambridge Road, Retail Director for Specsavers Kingston, Putney & Surbiton, Guy Loveday, hailed the event as "a great success".

Mr Loveday said: "We serviced ten vulnerable adults in just one session. With the help of Specsavers HealthCall who loaned us a mobile testing kit and my team who gave up their free time

to help, we all found it hugely beneficial.

"It is very important we give something back to the communities in which we work and it is a service we would like to continue."

KCAH praised the initiative and said that it complimented the community support they provide.

Sophie Mayor of KCAH said: "It was an absolutely brilliant morning, a huge success. In total, 10 people experiencing homelessness had their eyes tested and those who need them will be receiving glasses next week which will make a big difference to their lives.

"Our guests thoroughly enjoyed the company of Specsavers staff. The atmosphere was buzzing and their confidence was noticeably improved by the end.

"This type of partnership with the community and local businesses really helps to break down barriers and improve the wellbeing of the people KCAH work with."
