A 15-strong team of Beavers came together for a clean-up of Furzedown Recreation Ground last week.
The scout group of 6-8 years olds spent the morning on March 16 picking up litter in the Tooting park as part of a council campaign to encourage people to take pride in the area and do their bit to keep the borough clean and tidy.
Wandsworth Councillor Steffi Sutters, cabinet member for community Services and open spaces said: “It was great to see the scouts come together and clean up Furzedown Recreation Centre; they got a chance to see that, sadly, not everyone takes their litter home or disposes of it responsibly by putting it in a bin.
“However, what was particularly heartening was the way the Beavers really stepped up to the mark, got stuck in and truly deserved their community badge by the end of the morning.”
Assistant Beaver scout leader, Lee Curry was delighted by how the kids responded to the day.
“I loved seeing how all the Beavers were really enthusiastic and got so involved in something that made real difference to area," he said.
“It was a great way to spend a Saturday morning, doing something outdoors that helps the community instead of staying at home in front of tablet or smartphone.”
