A teenager has been released on bail following the death of an 86-year-old in Morden last year.

Police were called just before 6pm on Sunday, October 7, to the Epsom Road junction with Holne Chase.

Upon arrival officers found a man laying in the road. The victim, named as Leslie South, was taken to a south London hospital where he sadly died in the early hours of October 8.

It is believed that Mr South, who suffered from dementia, was making his way home from a Morden park, where he routinely went walking, when the crash happened.

Witnesses left the scene prior to police arriving and as a result it was initially thought that Mr South’s injuries may possibly have been caused by him collapsing and hitting his head.

However CCTV showed that his injuries were the result of a crash.

On January 3 a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and has since been released on bail.

A file has now been passed to the Crown Prosecution Service and police await their advice surrounding any charges.
