A former Dorking resident now living in Spain will feature on Channel 5 this Thursday.

The episode of Bargain Loving Brits in the Sun will feature the work of Jill Newman-Rodgers and the ARCH horse rescue charity, which is based in Spain's Costa del Sol region.

ARCH is run by British immigrant volunteers under the stewardship of Mrs Newman-Rodgers, who emigrated from Surrey to the region on southern Spain's Mediterranean coast.

Channel 5 said that Mrs Newman-Rodgers had worked with horses for most of her life and was eager to found a rescue charity for horses and donkeys after learning more about the numbers of these animals that need help across Spain.

A spokesperson for the broadcaster said: "In the two episodes Jill and ARCH feature we follow the story of Askara, who has had emergency surgery to repair her nose after an attack, and we also follow the rescue and treatment of Rihanna, a horse left tied to a fence with laminitis, a condition that results in overgrown hooves. Both are powerful stories that follow the efforts of the team to make a difference."

ARCH was founded in 2009 by a small group of horse lovers, all of whom had experience working with rescued animals.

They work to rescue many horses and donkeys in the Andalusia region of Spain — many were abandoned in the ongoing fall-out of the 2008-9 economic crisis.
