A man has been arrested after he was found by police carrying a snooker ball which had been stuffed in a knotted stock in Ewell.

The suspect was taken by officers yesterday (January 21) following a stop check on a car at Ewell West railway station.

He was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen good, possession of an offensive weapon, driving otherwise in accordance with a licence and driving without insurance.

Epsom and Ewell Beat said: “At around 4.15pm, officers were on plain clothes patrol when they spotted a Ford Focus sitting outside the station with the engine running.

“The driver was recognised by the officers as having no drivers licence and they decided to talk to him.

“On speaking to the driver, officers noticed a multi-tool in the centre console and asked the driver if he had anything else which might cause harm, the driver then produced a snooker ball in a knotted sock.

“The driver and car were searched and items were found which were believed to be stolen.

“Checks showed the driver had a revoked provisional driving licence and was not insured for the car he was in. The multi-tool was found to be legal, but the snooker ball in a sock caused officers some concern.

“The driver was arrested, interviewed and has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue into the items found in the car.”
