The World Rugby Museum in Twickenham overcame serious competition to win 2018/2019 Best Sporting Venue at the School Travel Awards.

The museum saw off competition from The Learning Zone at Wembley Stadium, Lord’s Tour & MCC Cricket Academy, Manchester United Museum & Stadium Tour, and Snozone.

Organised by School Travel Organiser magazine, the awards acknowledge those who excel in providing exciting and educational trips for schools.

The Best Sporting Venue award celebrates the best in learning outside the classroom, recognising organisations that go above and beyond to engage children with sport.

Getting children active is vitally important and the World Rugby Museum has worked closely with schools to inspire young people and provide them with fun, educational workshops to help support school learning.

After an off-site educational visit, schools can vote in the School Travel Awards to recognise exceptional learning experiences.

A challenging and rewarding year has seen the redevelopment of the museum, which reopened in February 2018 with exciting, new learning resources, building on the existing education offers.

Museum Education and Outreach Officer Ben Venus said: “The team has worked extremely hard and we’re delighted that our passion and commitment to engaging children with sport has shone through this year.

"We can’t wait to come back even stronger in 2019 and positively impact the lives of even more young people.”
