Tragedy has hit Greenwich twice in the past week with two 18-year-olds murdered in different attacks in the borough.

Police were called to a flat in Prior Street on December 8, and found Aron Warren collapsed and suffering with stab wounds.

The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 17-year-old was arrested and released with no further action, and then yesterday (December 12) a 16-year-old was arrested on suspicion of the fatal attack.

Then on December 11, Jay Sewell was attacked in Alwold Crescent in Eltham and later died in hospital.

Police are still trying to piece together what happened in both attacks and are asking for anyone with information to get in touch.

Cllr Dan Thorpe, the leader of Greenwich Council, has said he is "deeply concerned" by crime and is working hard with the police, but the borough needs more reassurance.

News Shopper readers have reacted on social media, saying that this surge in knife crime needs to stop.

Sandra Burge said: “Why fight with knives? Use your fists if you have to. You are all cowards.”

Reg Foster said: “If you like fighting join a boxing club, strange but you can have a fight with someone and you don’t get into trouble, someone comes up and shakes your hand and gives you a trophy, and get you name in the papers for something good, give it a try you might like it, make mates and get all you frustrations out.”

Ian Parkes said: “Who fights with knives? What has the world come to?”

Julia Mac said: “Terrible waste of another young life. God bless him and his poor family. We must bring back tougher sentences.”

Sharon Ann Shuter posted: “This has to stop here and now, we need to do something more please stop think. If you carry a knife be prepared to ruin your life and victims and extended family and friends. STOP STOP R.I.P YOUNG MAN thinking of his family.”

David Lovelace said: “About time carry a knife means time inside, just for carrying. Feel for his family and friends hope they get the murderers and the courts do their duty to the family and make it a long sentence without parole.”

Today the Mayor of London was warned by London Assembly members that we must start taking “further and drastic action” over the rise in violent crime.

There have been 125 homicides in London so far this year, the highest number in a calendar year this decade and after this week it doesn’t seem to slowing down.

How can we stop these violent attacks? Let us know in the comments below or on Facebook.
